Method
- 1
Use your ready made tzatziki and hummus (see the base recipes). Take both out of the fridge 10 minutes before serving so they are not too cold.
- 2
Spoon the hummus into one shallow bowl and the tzatziki into another. Swirl the top of each with the back of a spoon.
- 3
Drizzle the olive oil over the hummus and dust with the paprika. Top the tzatziki with a few mint leaves.
- 4
Arrange the dips on a large board or platter. Fill the space around them in groups: cucumber, carrot, pepper strips, tomatoes, olives, feta and roasted peppers.
- 5
Put a small bowl out for olive stones and serve straight away.
Tips
- Cut the raw vegetables just before serving so they stay crisp and bright.
- Make the two dips the day before. Both taste better after a night in the fridge.
- Add warm pitta or flatbreads if you do not need it gluten free.
Storing and freezing
Cover and chill leftovers. The dips keep for up to 3 days, the cut vegetables for 2 days. Do not leave the board out of the fridge for more than 2 hours.
Questions
Is this board gluten free?
Yes, as written. There is no bread on the board. Offer gluten free crackers or crisp vegetables for dipping, and check the olives and jarred peppers labels.
Can I make it dairy free?
Mostly. Serve the hummus, vegetables and olives, make the tzatziki with coconut or soya yoghurt, and leave out the feta.
What else can go on a mezze board?
Stuffed vine leaves, falafel, marinated artichokes, grilled halloumi, radishes and warm flatbreads all work well. Keep a mix of crunchy, creamy and salty.
