  4. 4

Fold in the cucumber, tomato, red onion and coriander and season with a little salt.

  5. 5

Pile the crab ceviche onto your tostadas (see the base recipe), top with avocado slices, and serve right away.

Tips

  • Crab meat is already cooked, so this ceviche is ready in minutes and is a good choice if you would rather avoid raw fish.
  • Squeeze the crab meat in a clean cloth to remove excess liquid before mixing, or the dish will be watery.
  • Pick through the crab meat for any shell fragments.
  • A mix of white and a little brown crab meat gives the best flavour.

Storing and freezing

Eat on the day. Keep covered in the fridge for no more than 1 day and throw away anything left after that.

Questions

Can I use tinned crab?

Yes. Drain tinned white crab meat very well and pat dry. Fresh or pasteurised pots from the fish counter taste better.

Is crab ceviche safe for pregnancy?

It is made from already cooked crab, so it is a safer choice than raw fish, but check with your midwife and keep everything very cold.

What do I serve it with?

Tostadas, corn chips or lettuce cups. Add sliced avocado on top for extra creaminess.
