Method
- 1
Flake the drained tuna into a bowl. Stir in the mayonnaise, your ready made chipotle adobo sauce (see the base recipe) and half the lime juice.
- 2
Season with salt and taste. Add more adobo for more heat.
- 3
Mash the avocado with the remaining lime juice and a pinch of salt.
- 4
Spread each tostada with avocado. Top with the tuna mixture.
- 5
Finish with your ready made pickled red onions (see the base recipe) and coriander, and serve immediately.
Tips
- Use tuna in spring water, not oil, for the cleanest taste.
- Assemble just before eating, or the tostadas go soft.
- Add finely chopped red pepper for crunch.
Storing and freezing
Tuna mixture keeps 1 day in the fridge. Assemble only when ready to eat.
Questions
Can I use fresh tuna?
Yes. Sear a fresh tuna steak for 1 minute per side, then flake it, or use sushi grade tuna raw.
How hot is it?
Medium. Start with 2 tablespoons of adobo sauce and add more gradually, tasting as you go.
Can I make it dairy free?
Yes, it is already dairy free as long as your mayonnaise is dairy free, which most are. Check the label.
