Put the dates in a jug with the boiling water and leave for 3 minutes, then mash to a rough paste.

Stir the flour, sugar, melted butter, egg and vanilla into the dates until smooth.

Divide between two large mugs, filling each only halfway.

Microwave one mug at a time on high for 1 minute 15 seconds, until risen and just set on top.

Meanwhile, warm the cream and the sauce sugar in a small pan for 2 minutes until bubbling and glossy.

Pour the toffee sauce over the puddings and serve straight away.
