Method
- 1
Heat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Line two baking trays.
- 2
Beat 125 g butter with the sugar until pale. Beat in the egg and yoghurt, then stir in the flour, baking powder and 0.5 tsp cardamom to make a soft dough. Cover and rest for 20 minutes.
20 min - 3
For the filling, chop the dates and mash them in a pan with 50 g butter over a low heat for 3 minutes until a sticky paste. Stir in the cinnamon, 1 tsp cardamom and the toasted sesame seeds. Cool, then roll into 18 small balls.
3 min - 4
Divide the dough into 18 pieces. Flatten each in your palm, set a date ball in the centre and wrap the dough around it, sealing well. Roll smooth and flatten very slightly.
- 5
Set on the trays, brush with egg yolk, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and prick the tops twice with a fork.
- 6
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until pale golden. Cool on the trays for 10 minutes, then move to a rack.
