Ultimate Spaghetti Bolognese – Classic Comfort with Extra Flavour!

This isn’t your average Spag Bol; this is the ultimate, flavour-packed spaghetti Bolognese. Tender ground beef simmered in a rich, herby tomato sauce, generously piled on perfectly cooked spaghetti. It’s saucy, comforting, and guaranteed to be devoured in seconds.

Ingredients:

  • 500g lean minced beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, finely diced
  • 1 stick celery, finely diced
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée
  • 200ml beef stock
  • 100ml red wine (optional, but amazing!)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp sugar (balances acidity)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 350g spaghetti
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Items Needed:

  • Large saucepan or frying pan
  • Large pot (for cooking pasta)
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Cheese grater (for Parmesan)

Recipe:

  1. Fry and Flavour: Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Fry the onion, carrot, celery, and garlic until soft, about 5–7 mins.
  2. Brown the Beef: Add minced beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  3. Add the Magic: Stir in tomato purée, chopped tomatoes, beef stock, red wine, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Low and Slow: Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for around 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let the flavours marry and become deliciously rich.
  5. Cook Spaghetti: Cook spaghetti according to packet instructions until al dente. Drain.
  6. Serve It Up: Serve generous portions of the delicious sauce over the hot spaghetti. Top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese, and dive in!
