Ultimate Cheese Potato Pie – Cheesy Goodness Guaranteed!

This cheese potato pie is the ultimate comfort food—fluffy mashed potatoes generously mixed with melted cheese and topped with golden, bubbly cheese. Perfectly satisfying, easy to make, and guaranteed to disappear faster than you can say, ‘Who ate all the pie?!’

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg potatoes (Maris Piper or King Edward), peeled and chopped
  • 200g mature cheddar cheese, grated (split into two 100g portions)
  • 50g unsalted butter
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional, but tasty)
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped (optional garnish)

Items Needed:

  • Medium saucepan
  • Potato masher or potato ricer
  • Ovenproof pie or casserole dish (approx. 23cm / 9-inch diameter)
  • Grater
  • Oven preheated to 200°C (180°C fan) / Gas mark 6

Recipe:

  1. Boil those Spuds: Peel and chop the potatoes into even-sized chunks. Boil in salted water for 15–20 mins until they’re tender (poke them with a fork—they should easily break).
  2. Mash It Up: Drain the potatoes, then mash until smooth and creamy. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and half of the grated cheese. Mix until gooey and dreamy.
  3. Load the Pie Dish: Lightly grease a medium-sized oven-proof pie dish or baking dish. Spoon the cheesy mash in and level it out nicely.
  4. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining cheese generously on top, making sure you get a nice, even layer. (More cheese is never a crime!)
  5. Oven Magic: Bake your masterpiece in the preheated oven for about 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling on top.
